That’s right, we just submitted our latest game, Pure Carnage, back into peer review. Are you an XNA Creators Club premium membership holder? Got some spare time? Then give our game a review!
We submitted Pure Carnage for playtest yesterday. If any of you reading happen to be XNA Creators Club members why not give it ago? We’d really appreciate any comments you have :)
Though it’s only been a day, we’ve already gotten some awesome feedback and we’re working to implement a couple of new (and exciting) features. Stay tuned.
So we’ve been inactive for a little while, but that’s because we’ve been working hard to improve our latest game now called “Pure Carnage” (the old name just didn’t communicate the chaos well enough :).
As a welcome back treat, let us introduce some of the new features we’ve added to the game:
- Co-op mode: that’s right, up to 4 players can now team up to take on the onslaught of enemy drones.
- Improved controls: you’re now able to activate power-ups without taking your fingers off the thumbsticks.
- Post-game statistics: see how you and your teammates performed
- Other subtle improvements:
We’ve added an options menu to adjust music/sfx volume levels.
We’ve added controller vibrations so you’ll know when/where you take damage.
We toiled to optimize our code so we could increase the gameplay intensity by upping the maximum number of bullets/enemies/explosions the game supports.
It’s true sadly… It was quite the fringe case, but here’s the scenario as described by the reviewer who found the bug:
I was playing in trial mode and the screen faded to white to display the Trial Over screen, I left the screen open for a bit while I was typing up some notes. While I was doing that the 8 minute Microsoft prompt opened up telling me the trial was over. I decided to “purchase” the game by pressing X. Doing that dismissed the Microsoft trial box and the games own Trial screen, returning me to the game, however, when I was returned to the game the game was in some kind of paused state, I could move my turrets but they wouldn’t fire and none of the enemies were moving. I could still press start to pause the game, resuming wouldn’t start the enemy and turret fire though. I could pause then quit out of the game, but that would ruin the game in progress. Normal purchase through games Trial Over screen was OK.
Now, the game doesn’t hang (since you can still pause and return to the main menu), but everything in the current session stays frozen (except your turrets, which don’t shoot). Kinda shitty, but still unacceptable.
I’m quite into coding our next game, so I’ll probably take a couple of days before I get to working on the bug. Might take this opportunity to take a stab at a few nagging flaws currently in the game, but I’ve been hesitant about that for fear of introducing new issues :(
Having submitted our second game, Carnage: Under Siege, for peer review (second iteration, but that just means the game is even more awesome now), we decided to express some of the joy we’re currently experiencing and share some of the auditory awesomeness that accompanies our games.
Here are a few tracks from our first game, TrickShot:
These tunes were fresh from the mind of the fantastic Paul Zaleski and added a terrific atmosphere to the game. We’d love to hear what you think of them!
Note to Other Game/Media Developers:
In line with our joy-spreading philosophy; we at Sterlingware, are open to sharing whatever talents we have with the world. Therefore, please feel free to contact us if you are interested in infusing some Zaleski-brand awesomesauce in your game/media/product :)
Quick update on our latest game, Carnage: Under Siege. It’s been in playtest for a while now. We submitted for peer review last week and a reviewer found a (silly, on our part) bug so we had to pull the game.
We’ve taken the time to make some v. helpful improvements, and we’ll probably extend the playtest run for another couple of days before resubmitting for review.
In the meantime, we’ll share a little more about Carnage and put up some media while we’re at it.
Since we’ve taken down the static front page (showcasing our latest game Carnage) I thought we should probably add a post about it. So, here you are:
Carnage: Under Siege is our latest game for the Xbox Live Indie Games channel. It’s a twist on the twin-stick shooter genre where you control two static turrets guarding a gateway. The plot is simple, protect the gateway against the horde of enemies for as long as you can, achieving carnage level awards along the way.
Allo Allo! It’s been a while since we changed things up a bit so, on a complete whim, we decided to change our website theme :) We’re going to try to be a little more active on here. I know we’ve made that promise before, but we really mean it this time!.
Folks, we never thought we’d see this day, but it has happened… We have finished a game!!
TrickShot is now available on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace. Support us and get your copy now here.
Oh, and incase you thought the silence over the last little while was a sign of dwindling inactivity, stay tuned… we’ve got some exciting projects in the works ;)
